We are delighted to announce that Jim Corning will be one of the guest speakers for the upcoming #I-MEC event that will be hosted by Micro-Ant LLC at our Global Headquarters in Jacksonville Florida.
Jim Corning professional life revolves around aviation, engineering, composites, and ballistic protection. He received a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from MIT in 1977. Jim has worked in aviation since 1985, and he can’t imagine life without flying and designing components for aircraft.
He started his first manufacturing company in 1996, to meet the needs of three of his consulting clients who needed high-performing composite parts for aircraft. In the early years, the manufacturing operation was bootstrapped financially from Jim’s engineering consulting practice. That company became NOVAKINETICS AEROSYSTEMS, INC. Aerosystems Inc., in Flagstaff, which has produced a diverse range of composite parts, from bicycle frames to wind tunnel models, production aircraft components, prototype jet engine nacelles, and Grizzly bear-resistant food containers
NOVAKINETICS AEROSYSTEMS, INC. also served as an incubator for the development of the first Kinetic Defense ballistic panel designs for aircraft. Jim’s early armor panels were qualified with the Department of State Air Wing in 2003 for Air Tractor crop dusters that were used as part of Plan Colombia for coca crop eradication. Kinetic Defense was spun off from Novakinetics in 2005, to meet a request from the Department of State Air Wing for ten sets of Huey Helicopter armor for aircraft that were being urgently redirected to Afghanistan. Over the following years, Kinetic Defense armored over 100 airplanes and helicopters for the Air Wing, including MD530 and Sikorsky S-61 helicopters, Thrush, and Air Tractor crop dusters, Dash 8 and Beech 1900 commuter planes, and one DC-3.
At NOVAKINETICS AEROSYSTEMS, INC., and Kinetic Defense, Jim has built a team that can readily handle diverse projects. Their skills range from composites manufacturing to ballistic panel lamination, welding, sewing, mechanical assembly, engineering, CAD solid modeling, and CNC machining. Novakinetics and Kinetic Defense have had an AS9100 certified quality system since 2016
